Northeastern Illinois University’s El Centro Campus will provide educational, career and cultural opportunities primarily, though not exclusively, to the Latino community. El Centro makes available the general education program to students who are interested in taking classes primarily during the evening hours and weekends. This campus offers undergraduate and graduate courses and serves the Latino community through English as a Second Language (ESL). A key component is the outreach programs with the local community through education, health, housing and technology.
The El Centro Campus is conveniently located near the Belmont Blue Line Stop and Kennedy Expressway. The building includes 55,000 square feet of classrooms, computer labs, multipurpose activity room, conference rooms, community room, cafeteria, study rooms, library and reception lobby. The campus is incorporated into the surrounding area while enhancing positive activities.
Phase I demolition of existing site has been completed. The first NEIU El Centro building is on course for LEED Gold status and is scheduled to open in January 2014.
