The Elsa Triolet school is located in the most recent part of Mitry-Mory, on a regular, orthogonal urban grid of modest plots and pavilions, stretching from Tremblay in the west to the great void of the plain in the east, which separates Mitry-le-Neuf from Mitry-Bourg. The program includes a nursery school, a leisure center and a canteen for nursery and elementary classes.

On the street side, the building remains low-rise, rising three times to indicate the three main entities: the nursery school, the multi-activity room and the leisure center. The entrance to the school is an opportunity to create a public square at the corner of the block, lined with a sheltered and secure forecourt, a transitional space between exterior and interior.

The ensemble responds to the need to distance children from the public space, and recalls the teachers' attachment to the generous volumes and openness of the old school's classrooms. The project is composed like a small village, a web of solids and voids on the scale of neighboring silhouettes, or like an abundant, contained and animated landscape. It embraces a double courtyard, protected from the sights and sounds of the city.

While the roofs always run parallel to the main road, the rooms are set out perpendicular to the courtyard, in the manner of terraced houses, creating a great variety of spaces, orientations and openings.
