The new viewing platform in the gardeners' district of Bamberg is involved in an exciting and informative tour through the city district. The structure offers his visitors a panoramic view of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bamberg. Since the medieval times people run horticulture farms in the inner city. Unique buildings and a rich developed gardeners’ culture bear witness to this long tradition.
The viewing platform is designed as a pure cube. It is the prototype of a family of objects for the gardeners' district and can respond variantly to different local situations. The cube is slightly tilted to irritate the viewer and to draw attention to itself. With its reduced range of materials and its ease of construction the viewing platform is a new interpretation of the "greenhouse". It thus draws attention to a vital, fascinating "tool" of the gardener - the greenhouses.
The construction of the viewing platform in the gardeners' district of Bamberg is based on a simple, rectangular structure. It leans in two directions at an angle of 6 degrees. Inside the building offers an extraordinary experience of space. The space is thrown out of balance. With lightweight, galvanized steel profiles and translucent cast glass surfaces, the building follows the material palette of classical greenhouses. The main frame structure is added from standard steel-profiles. Standing, it serves as a supporting wall structure, filled with cast glass. Lying, they it is the substructures of levels and roof, filled with security grills and cast glass.
