Palais de Justice de Rimouski

CCM2 Architectes as Architects

Consortium les architectes d'aujourd'hui : CCM2 + GLCRM + PROULX SAVARD ARCHITECTES

This uniquely complex project highlighted the verticality of the existing facades and respectfully distinguished the old from the new. The architectural design of the extensions was conceived with great restraint. The whole presents a perfect balance in the image of the justice system. The complete refurbishment of the existing building envelope, the oldest sections of which date back to 1859, presented a major technical challenge. The monumental, contemporary staircase in the center of the atrium adds to the dynamism and biophilia of the premises.  The materiality of the courtrooms is an ode to traditional architecture.

The project incorporates a number of sustainable measures to reduce the building's environmental footprint, in line with the high ecological standards of LEED-NC Gold certification. LEED-accredited professionals ensured that low-tech sustainable strategies were used to combine performance and budget. They guided the designers and accompanied the client in the application of LEED-NC requirements.
