PAVILION PONDEROSA

PCA | PAOLO CUCCHI ARCHITECTS as Architects

Located in Malaysia, the pavilion develops inside a high-end area, just next to a prominent golf course, surrounded by abundant greenery. Aim of the project was to satisfy the client’s request to organize a modest parcel of land as healing corner, where to find peace from the intensity of daily life.

Simplicity characterizes each phase of the development ensuring a contemporaneous statement, attuned to the natural surrounding. Spaces and surfaces, according to a disciplined study of the geometries, flow fragmented with formal clarity, articulating the unity of the connective tissue. The precise lines of the elongated volume of the pavilion merge and interact with landscape, hardscape and other recreational parts, as a sartorial work, tailored to the context. Empathic consonance between architecture and landscape, closely blended together, offers a harmonic ensemble where water, greenery and light play the primary role of regeneration. Tropical topics, proposed with essential modern idiom, translate the essence of the ‘place’: the formal elegance doesn’t linger on distractions of decor, the attention focuses on communicating an intimate sensorial experience, closely connected with the beauty of nature and its calming, soothing power.

Compact and porous, the pavilion slightly elevated on a strip of current water opens up at the center with interruptions of large sliding doors, offering the feeling, sitting in the airy open dining-living, to sip a glass of wine immersed in the greenery. Acoustic suggestions, emphasized through visual associations, amplify as ripples the physical pleasure to feel the nature: a seemingly endless rhythm of running water, from the sprightly jets along the granite wall fence, acts in unison performing a miracle of freshness, provoking and renewing emotions. Attentive combination of light, natural and artificial, rhythmically enhances the belt of fluidity that embraces and nurtures as vital lymph the composition. This dedication to light keeps untouched the overall atmosphere of intimacy.
