Little Diversified Architectural Consulting as Architects

Pfeiffer University’s Center for Health Sciences, located in the historic Five Points area of downtown Albemarle, NC, represents a transformative investment in healthcare education and community revitalization. This four-story, state-of-the-art facility houses the University’s expanded Master of Physician Assistant Studies and Master of Occupational Therapy programs, equipping students with the knowledge and hands-on experience to serve the surrounding rural communities. Beyond its educational mission, the project has catalyzed economic and social growth in Albemarle, sparking what is affectionately known as the "Pfeiffer Effect". Sited next to the oldest historic structure in the county, the ground floor is dedicated to the city. In addition to the CACSE, the entry level has a public greenspace, a large multi-Purpose Room, and a rural clinic with the potential for students and faculty to provide essential community healthcare services. The building emphasizes flexibility and adaptability, featuring modular furniture and versatile spaces that can evolve alongside changes in healthcare advancements and community needs. A hallmark of the Center’s design is its focus on creating environments that facilitate learning everywhere. Interior spaces promote wellness for students, staff, and visitors alike with ample natural daylight, connection to the outdoors, and thoughtfully integrated landscaping.

The architecture serves to balance form and function, supporting healthcare education and innovation while celebrating the community’s rich history. The Center’s architectural excellence, paired with its mission-driven purpose, ensures that it will remain a cornerstone of education and economic vitality for generations to come.
