“The Wall” by Lithaunian/Greek team: Andrius Raguotis, Fani Ntintoka and Sofia Zournatzidou
This proposal generates a stand-alone element that detaches from the existing riverfront. It constitutes an inhabited wall of different levels. The offsetting of the building helps the definition of an in-between space for the swimming activities in a more controlled segment of the River. The Promenade path is reinterpreted into a game among these different levels and the fluidity of the overlapping layers. Conceptually, it connects in a broader way to the floating elements of Cais da Ribeira, almost an oversized stylized docked boat.
From the author: “The line at the edge of the river forms an unfriendly zone for the users. In order to enhance the importance of the relation between the two parts, the water and the land, a 360m long part of the border is offset in the river, creating a new “wall” and connecting it back to the coastline with four bridges. The project is an attempt to trigger people to re-examine the border and their rela¬tion with the coastline in general. To trigger them to cross the line, to walk the bridges and experience the new territory.”
