The Quaker Bluff Estate consists of a Residence, Cottage, and Barn. The Residence is a modern home sited to capture dynamic views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains beyond. A single-story entry, flanked by shallow pools, creates a tranquil arrival. A custom entry door ties together the natural toned exterior materials while offering glimpses extensive lake and mountain views beyond. Extensive glass facing the lake, coupled with free-floating corners brings light deep into the interior and orients occupants to distant views. The Cottage is a guest house built on an existing foundation nestled into a hillside. Situated on a property surround by active farms, the house creates an architecturally provocative statement by integrating a strong, modern vocabulary into a familiar vernacular shape. The massing, a simple gable form with cantilevered gable projections is punctured by contemporary storefront windows. A more traditional board and batten exterior siding reinforces the vernacular feel, while still transitioning directly into the contemporary window details.
