The project called for the renovation and expansion of the existing 1950s ranch home that was the client’s childhood home. The goal was to reinvent the residence as modern home for a couple who are avid cooks. The ranch style was maintained as the addition extended towards the back on the same level as requested by the client. The exterior details and materials took its cues from the Craftsman and Prairie Styles.
The centerpiece of the house, naturally, is a large, vaulted kitchen with a central island. The L-shaped addition includes a guest bedroom, laundry room, and Master Bedroom Suite. Nestled between the new addition and the existing home is a raised patio that is accessible from the Master Bedroom. The space of the existing portion of the house was opened up to create a seamless flow from the living room, dining room, leading to a back entry foyer with an adjacent solarium.
