Living in São Paulo for 20 years, a couple with three independent daughters decided to buy an apartment in Belo Horizonte. The space would configure for the couple a place of rest, to gather family and friends. A shelter for both, a space of memory and affection. A place full of art, family objects, memories from the farm and popular celebrations of their place of birth, and regional tenderness.
Raised on a family of artists, the owner wanted to rescue in this space her brother, cousins and friends work, as well as from other artists, local and national, to fulfill her home with life.
The apartment breaths art. Names like Roberto Bethônico, Solange Bethônico, Mabe Bethônico, Fernando Luchesi, Jayme Reis, Nydia Negromonte, Liliane Dardot, Luís Guerra, Marcelo Drummond, share space with names like José Bento, Gabriela Machado, and Amilcar de Castro.
Tradition and memory from local roots reveal itself in the rustic wooden floor and the walls covered in Tecnocement and Miaki, which reminds the burnt cement from farms. The mix of colors, which goes from petroleum blue, olive green, yellow, red, gray, brown, black, white, besides steel and cooper, bring the opulence of our local baroque, our religious tradition and popular celebrations. All this variety compose tapes, flowers, and textiles. The local reference is also present on the artwork by Fernando Luchesi, at the couple suite, which reminds the costumes and textiles used on the popular celebration of “Congado”. Also, the artwork located in the office, by the same artist, which refers to the local baroque.
The furniture brings comfort and rest, uniting the very best of brazilian design. Great names like Sérgio Rodrigues, Jorge Zalszupin, Alfio Lisi, Jader Almeida, Etel Carmona and Giuseppe Scapinelli, which names tell history about our design since its beginning until modern times, going through many ages: from the first ones with Giuseppe, the eternal ones like Sérgio Rodrigues and the more recent ones like Jader. The selected furniture is a recognition to national talent on producing quality designs, full of style and class.
The idea to amplify the social area by integrating the balcony, kitchen, and TV room, giving openness and fluidity, was to form a place of meeting centered in good food and good chats.
New combinations of colors and materials, which goes from technological to rustic, create a overlap of plans in beams, pillars, walls, enhancing forms and compositions. Besides this lush pallet of materials and colors, the paintings and drawings from family and friends, as well as family objects, resumes the affection and couple’s memory, who’s very proud of its origins, its history and all that helped them reach this moment.
