SOM’s design for an extension to Schloss Velden provides a significant expansion of hotel and spa facilities, whilst retaining the iconic presence of the historic Schloss as the dominant feature within the grounds. The scheme also responds to the brief by incorporating innovative and sustainable refurbishment of the surrounding park.
In addition to more common approaches to sustainable design, the plan introduces new notions of sustainability, where beyond an empirical evaluation of “green” there is also an emphasis on visual and cultural sustainability
