Mjarc Arquitectos as Architects

Located in one of the most emblematic and traditional districts of the city of Lisbon, in Chiado, this space dedicated to design and decoration is housed in a typically Pombalian building whose monumentality is representative of a new social order that valued the merchant and financial class. It is a building whose foundations are based on staking, the rooms are vaulted and topped by arches of masonry.


Respecting all this physical structure and significant historical relevance, we seek to create a space and an environment taking into account its past, adapting it to the present, introducing elements / solutions of extreme contemporaneity either by the application of materials and textures, or by the creation of volumes, colors and shapes that, adding the grandeur of the right foot, confer singularity and harmony between the different created spaces.


This showroom is divided into two zones: a large ground floor for display of design and decorative objects and an overlay, intended for presentations, art exhibitions and meeting area.


When entering this space, the visitor feels surrounded by the verticality of the right foot, by the architectural majesty of the great arch in stonework that, functioning as a sort of portal of time, transports the individual through the centuries, from the pombaline essence to the most sophisticated language that define our century and therefore our work.


All the space lives of great plastic wealth by the application of a diversity of materials: papers, eco-sustainable coverings, textiles and carpets of high density and quality; shapes and volumes that, not forgetting its functionality, do not decay the aesthetics, exhibit themselves as "sculptures" such is the case of the staircase that allows the connection of the ground floor to the upper floor. Below, the circulation is made in a labyrinthine way, provoking curiosity and surprise effect; in this way, particularizes corners and corners dedicated to highlight certain objects and micro-environments. In this way, the visitor is constantly called to explore and discover, promoting the products on display and the enthusiasm of those who pass by.
