Project developed on competition “contract for design and construction of the João Rocha Sports Center”. It is intended to build next to the Alvalade XXI stadium, a multi-sports modalities arena with capacity to conduct international competitions and events, with a commercial area and a Sporting History Museum. The project main concept is to respond the competition`s premises the most effective way, and the same time, respect the restrictive conditions imposed by the Alvalade XXI Detailed Plan.
The Sports Center morphology is characterized mainly by the clearance of its exterior design. Generically, the building can be described as two overlaped volumes, one basis of glass and concrete and superior volume with the structure to sustain the rooftop. Conceptually the building reverses the classical constructive logic, with a volume of concrete over a glass box. This option gives the building a particular lightness, of great elegance. The final result is a well balanced volume in its proportions and the relationship with the surrounding.
