St. Albans School Athletic Complex

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill as Architects

As part of the ongoing consolidation and expansion of St. Albans School, SOM developed a phased plan to expand athletic facilities by reconfiguring the existing fields and circulation paths on the site with a series of landscaped terraces and creating new below-grade facilities for the Beauvoir School pool pavilion, the tennis pavilion, storage areas, and restrooms. This approach minimizes the intrusion of structures on the site and maximizes the utility of athletic space. A 15-foot arcade of Potomac bluestone and a 3-foot wall separate the multipurpose field and the baseball and practice field, and serve as a pedestrian spine enabling players and spectators to walk safely from one field to another without disturbing play.
