The couple searched, during 4 years, for an architect that could translate their ideas on a countryside house. After this long research, they found the work of David Guerra, which they appreciate it since the first moment. There is a coincidence that Freusa Zechmeister, which David worked with and carries as reference for his architecture of affection, worked for the client’s mom in the past.
The concept for a house in a natural reserve area was to conceive a refugee for leisure, which could dialogue with the space around and bring nature to frame the house’s openings.
A tranquil and comfortable home, where usufruct of tranquility and peace are key, being simultaneously vigorous and cozy, with intense colors and natural materials, like wood, stone and cement cladding.
A house with fluid, integrated, spacious rooms, and well thought height on ceilings for abundant light. A place where time is for usufruct with family and friends with good food and good talk. A place for a walk sided by nature, inspiring good ideas brought back to the studio. Terraces for a good read, with some fresh air and immersive sun. Nature that inspires gardening and moments of playfulness with dogs.
In architecture as in decoration, which is also made by David Guerra, the house should reflect the spirit of this Family of artists: festive, cool and nature lover. The mother, a businesswoman; the son, Bruno Cançado, a young promise artist on SP ARTE and winner of many prizes; the son Henrique Cançado, owner of the brand TOMADA.LU, which designs and furbishes concept lamps.
Settled on a steep terrain, the many blocks, the suspended terraces and the sloped roof were elements used to generate movement in the house’s volumetry. On the first floor, we find the grassed terrace, deck, pool, sauna, shower, outside bathroom, balcony, both gourmet and regular kitchen, living and dining room, wine cellar, TV room, washing room and the atelier, creating a fluidity to the house. At the same floor we also have garage, laundry, and service suite. On the second floor, the private area.
The demolition wood, brought from the father’s farm, is found through the entire place. Looking to achieve elegant pieces also able to overcome big gaps, the steel structure was chosen as the most adequate option, faced later on by demolition wood. The choosing of materials were aimed to merge beauty and coziness with ease of maintenance, besides the contrast between natural and technological materials, like demolition wood, stone, clay, cladding, tecnocement, steel structure, laminated glass, anodized aluminum. The crossed ventilation made the environment extremely comfortable. Wooden doors and floor, as well as on the walls and ceiling, helps on absorbing sound, enhancing the acoustic confort.
The pick for furniture wasn’t limited to fashion, aiming to portrait the multiplicity of personal backgrounds of each inhabitant, their references and values.
The picks go all the way from old pieces inherited from the client’s family, which had, in the 70’s, their entire place filled with furniture designed by Sergio Rodrigues, besides pieces designed by Jorge Zalzsupin, Paulo Alves, Hugo França and Porfirio Valadares. The mix of materials go through the furniture as well, going all the way from the classics and rustics to the more contemporary, all with fluidity and lightness to harmonize with the landscape in the background.
