The UniCredit Tower is the city's tallest building located in the center of the new urban development around Porta Nuova Garibaldi in the north of Milan. With a height of 231 metres (758 ft), it is the tallest building in Italy.
The building, designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli consists of three curved towers linked by a circular base on a surface of 1.4 million square feet / 131,000 square meters which creates a new and grand gateway to the city. Spiraling upward the 31-story asymmetrical tower culminates in a sculptural stainless steel spire. As part of its European restructuring, UniCredit moved here 4,000 staff members from various departments to both improve organizational processes and optimize costs. Each of the buildings is certified LEED Gold with a 37% reduction of energy consumption through high-performance glazing, high efficiency lighting and daylight controls.
Inside the buildings, filtered outside air and temperature monitoring systems creates a comfortable working environment. The open-space office plan is refurbished by Arper collections: several versions of “Catifa 46” are used for offices, meeting rooms and conference spaces, offering employees a choice of various workstations and forms of work. Elegant, lightweight “Leaf” chairs designed by Lievore Altherr Molina for Arper are to be found in more informal areas such as the cafeteria.
