University of Illinois Chicago New Soccer Stadium

JGMA as Architects

The University of Illinois at Chicago current soccer facility has limited seating with little identity to aid in recruiting. JGMA was asked to investigate a new on-campus facility in order to give prominence to the sport and soccer field at the university. Seating for 2,500 fans, with a terrace for standing, concession areas, weight room, offices and technical areas for field maintenance are included. To create a strong identity for the facility a blue fence wraps the field, relating to school colors and increasing in scale around the spectator area to contain the stadium seating. A pedestrian ramp brings spectators from the ground level to the terrace at the top of the stadium. Below the seating, a glass enclosure contains the support spaces; concession stands, offices, weight room, etc. This glass wall also contains the signage for the facility
