Wonen in Wiele

In Eindhoven, wedged between Landgoed de Wielewaal, the Drents Dorp and Strijp R, a new residential area will be built in 2023. Wiele is a green urban development with a park-like living environment, where existing and new greenery is given plenty of space.

The location is characterized by a green layout with a wide diversity of mature trees. This quality has served as the basis for the urban design. The interplay between architecture and landscape creates a neighborhood with space for meeting. The homes will have a gentle transition to the public area. Pergolas and verandas create space in front of the house where private and public merge. The plinth of the houses is pronounced by the combination of concrete, wood and ascending greenery. The combination with the above-mentioned masonry creates a recognizable and individual character of this new district. A nesting box is provided per home to house birds and bats. In addition, all (flat) roofs are green and equipped with solar panels.

The green space around the buildings is largely car-free. The buildings are accessible via paths that are accessible to cyclists and pedestrians. Traditional streets are only present to provide access to parking via the rear sides. In the Wiele plan there is therefore plenty of room for cycling, walking and smart mobility, with an important role for the (electric) shared car. The plants and in particular the many mature trees with extensive and shady crowns contribute to limiting heat stress. Green roofs provide cooling in the summer and have an additional insulating effect in the winter months. Water storage takes place as much as possible on the flat (green) roofs of the houses and under the open paving.

Wiele contributes to healthy urbanization through its car-free design, green character and its many opportunities for meeting and exercising.
