After the release of a prefabricated prototype and an exhibition on the topic at La Biennale di Venezia, SUMMARY Studio have completed their first prefabricated project in Vale de Cambra, Portugal.
At ground level the building accommodates a multi-service program. Perched on a shelf above are 6 completely individual residential units measuring 45 m2 each. The ground floor was shaped by prefabricated slabs and structural panels for the exterior walls.
Designed with flexibility in mind, components can be added or removed, allowing users to adapt the space according to their needs. Upstairs, housing provides a low-cost rent solution with complete individuality. The houses are ‘placed’ in a free manner, with no constraints in terms of their orientation or position.
Working with a Gomos System, each building module leaves the factory completely ready, including all interior and exterior finishes, insulation, window frames, water and electricity installation. The building assembly was done on-site in just a few days, just by joining the modules together.
The building is finished with precast concrete directly exposed to the exterior without any finishing. This was helpful in terms of reducing material quantities and manpower, and thus cost. The move also allowed for the acceleration of the building process.
