Zaha Hadid Architects shaped the new headquarters into a series of interconnecting dunes. Orientated and sculpted to optimize the climatic conditions of Sharjah, the Emirates third largest city.
The building is powered by a solar array and makes use of a smart management system that automatically adjusts lighting and temperature depending on occupancy and time of day.
The BEEAH Group operates in waste management and recycling, clean energy, environmental consulting, education and green mobility. The new headquarters becomes the base of operations to diversify into new, future-critical industries. The building acts as a benchmark to show how technology can scale sustainable impact.
Two primary dune volumes house the public and management departments. They are interconnected via a central courtyard oasis, which is integral for natural ventilation.
Visitors enter beneath a 15-meter high glazed dome that floods the interiors with natural daylight and further improves natural ventilation.
The 9,000 square meters office building incorporates smart meeting rooms, an immersive visitors center and an auditorium.
The building is made up out of mostly local building materials. Glass reinforced fiber panels are chosen to reduce solar gain. Slab and glass cooling regulate interior temperatures to minimize energy consumption. The solar farm charges Tesla battery packs to power the building’s energy demands day and night.
In collaboration with sustainability engineers and consultants Atelier Ten, Buro Happold and smart building technologies by Microsoft, the architects developed an employee experience that includes contactless pathways, a virtual concierge, smart meeting rooms and a companion app that automates day-to-day tasks.
