Alison Brooks Architects, Adjaye Associates and Henning Larsen have collaborated to win the international masterplan competition for Toronto’s Quayside, working with developer Dream Unlimited. Our team’s 300,000 square meter masterplan for the city’s latest waterfront neighborhood brings together residential, enterprise and education uses in an ensemble of mid- and high-rise buildings stitched together by a community forest. The scheme will deliver a new model for sustainable low-carbon communities and will serve people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and incomes.
Our winning proposal includes over 800 affordable housing units, more than double what is currently available at the waterfront. Many will be delivered in the earliest stages to address the city’s urgent need. New public spaces include a two-acre forested, car-free green space and an urban farm. At the water’s edge a landmark cultural destination and multi-use arts venue will bring together space for the performing arts, Indigenous-centered cultural celebrations and flexible education spaces. Low carbon development principles will make Quayside the first all-electric, zero-carbon community at this scale. Our team’s visionary approach will create a memorable destination on Toronto’s waterfront. The Western Curve, Alison Brooks Architects’ landmark tower, will be part of the development’s first phase.
