TECHNO BOX

The idea of a habitat structure for emergency situations was realized through a modular project made of several functional aggregate elements. These elements are designed to host the individual up to a group of a maximum of 5/6 persons.

THE CONCEPT

Techno box was designed as a performing solution that guarantees a high comfort (acoustic, thermal and humidity), suitable for temporary housing problems of groups of natural disaster victims. This solution was studied not only to resolve dwelling problems, but it considers the sociological community aspects too. Therefore, the project creates an environment aimed to restore serenity by the cultivation of little gardens which are connected to each module. So the architects give attention both to nutritional aspects and to the need of restore a more seraphic and hospitable image of the structure through activities that distract the victims from the tragedy in which they where involved. Therefore the project guarantees an edifying psychological impact. Then the project appears to be sensitive to another social requirement: the respect of the privacy. This aspect is ensured by the choice of providing for the installation of shadings that shield outside the light and assure privacy and, once you have closed the lamellae, guarantee the environment division inside.

EXPANDABILITY

Each element of the composition is an instrument able to modify the dwelling module through the satisfaction of the most different needs: for example, if there is the need of expand or compress the space, they are going to include or exclude these functional elements. The choice of a pseudo-octagonal form is not only a figurative choice but it was studied to make possible a horizontally and vertically aggregation.

INSTALLATIONS (ABOUT THE INSTALLATIONS)

Regarding the installations, the architects choice the external energetic provision, even if the module provides some spaces for the machines. This decision arises from the desire to give more practical solutions in which all the emergency camp is not dependent from the solar level. So the modules have an internal distribution installation (water, electricity, heating, cooling, dehumidification) easily connected with the external emergency network, which is fed with renewable sources (specifically there are solar and photovoltaic panels on light support, heat recovery boilers and little tanks of drinking water). As regards the drainpipe of the kitchen and the bathroom, they provides some tanks that will be cleaned when they are full.

FLEXIBILITY, RE-EMPLOYABILITY, RECYCLING

The techno box components which are made in the work shop have the further advantages: easy transport, simple assembling (thanks to its little structural complexity) and adaptability to the ground. Once you overcome the emergency situations, the modules can be employed again in other similar situations or can be added to other elements (in vertical sense too, for a maximum of two floors). So they can be used as simple accommodations for students, immigrants or homeless persons. An alternative is the dismantling of the single parts of the module which become useful elements for new buildings: breezy front attached to the internal buffering, walls of trumpets, windows, blinds and frames. In particular, the last element can be re-employed thanks to the addition of solar panels. The message they want to launch is both the importance of the recycling and the attention on the energy saving theme.
