In 2009, TELUS House was one of the first of a flurry of new towers that would become the South Core, just south of Toronto's Financial District and Union Station. The building is also next to the Scotiabank Arena and Maple Leaf Square, which gives it a rich context.
In 2019, Sweeny &Co Architects commissioned me to capture the building 10 years after its completion. The area has changed a lot and is now very dense, but the building still stands on its own.
The rich context (train station, sporting areas, multiple towers) was key to capture but also posed challenges. The adjacent street is very busy most of the day, the area in front of the building is sometimes closed for sporting events... Careful planning was important to get great images.
The client picked a mix of images at different times of day, showing the different lighting conditions, including the building lighting, as well a variety of contexts with and without people.
