The Grounds is New Zealand’s first engineered tall timber residential development, consisting of 42 designer apartments. The development is made up of four buildings, each three storeys high and located at Hobsonville Point in Auckland, New Zealand.
The structural components include cross laminated timber (CLT) panels and engineered timber posts and beams, which were prefabricated at the Tallwood factory minimising construction time on site.
Abodo’s Vulcan Screening was chosen for the vertical fins due to its inherent stability and excellent weathering characteristics. Able to clear span over 2.5 metres, Vulcan Screening can be relied upon to stay straight, protecting the integrity of the design. All timber screening was factory pre-finished with Sioo:x Natural Wood Coating by Abodo, further reducing time required by on-site trades.
The screening was finger jointed in selected lengths to minimise waste form off-cuts.
Abodo’s Sand Decking was chosen due to its high durability, consistency and low maintenance Pearl finish.
The finishes on both timbers will allow the timber to weather off gracefully offering low maintenance to the building owners.
