Qurio / Cultivating Curiosity

“Fairytales and curiosity inspired the design; ideas such as ‘breadcrumbs’ as colourful geometries on the floor, ‘keyholes’ windows for peeking through walls, and curvy white acoustic ceiling panels that float above like clouds.” — Kenny Kinugasa-Tsui, co-founder of Bean Buro “We created an adaptable environment for different spatial setups. The idea is similar to a theatre stage. Young learners can choose how they would like to engage with the class.” — Lorène Faure, co-founder of Bean Buro Bean Buro The Brief: A curious learning centre  We were tasked to create an inventive learning centre for Qurio—a high-quality enrichment school for children aged four... Flames Hung Hom

Project Brief Flames Whampoa is the third restaurant by the Flames brand in Hong Kong. Metagram's brief was to establish an iconic visual identity which could solidify the visual outlook of the brand's restaurants. Both the founders of Metagram and Flames shared a background of living in Sydney, Australia. This nostalgic synergy created a consensus that the outcome of the design should simulate the wonderful Australian dining experiences fondly remembered by both parties. Metagram proposed the target of achieving a distinctly Australian dining experience using only atmospheric design strategies and materials, whilst avoiding literal references, such as pictures or cultural objects. Espresso Alchemy Nina Tower

The concept for the cafe was inspired by the rich red-brown colors of coffee crema. Using a white base to create an atmosphere of lightness and to reflect in maximum daylight, we used a selection of red toned materials, each with a unique quality to express different elements of the architecture. Metagram The most visible event, the bar bench, positioned parallel to the mall corridor gives the frontage impetus and provides a strong visual edge to define the space. Clad in triangular terra-cotta pigmented concrete tiles with distinct three dimensional fluting, the dynamic material breaks down the monolith into a play of pattern and geometry. Metagram The working surface, a carefully selected terrazzo, features shards of red marbl... Mais

Espresso Alchemy Harbour City

The objective of the Espresso Alchemy café design in Hong Kong's Harbour City mall was to visually connect two disjointed but adjacent spaces. Metagram inserted vividly coloured architectural forms in order to create this iconic design. Metagram The site located in Tsim Sha Tsui, a key tourist district of Hong Kong, was one without clear boundaries and was surrounded by much visual clutter, making it difficult to control the design experience. Metagram Comprised of two sections, the primary tenancy was narrow, oddly shaped, and visually open to a vast, mostly inactive common mall area providing good visibility but little privacy. Metagram Adjacent to the tenancy, within the open mall space was the secondary area. Th... Mais

Flames Hung To Road

Flames Hung To Road in Kwun Tong is the fourth and flagship restaurant by the Flames brand in Hong Kong and the second store designed by Metagram. Caption This branch is located in the heart of industrial Kwun Tong - Hung To Road, a street store in the recently renovated Skyparc Building (previously Paul Y Centre). Caption The design is formal and highly symmetrical, with dynamic seating arrangements set up around a crucifix layout. Central columns in the space, bookended with naturally st... Mais
