The office redesign for Canadian law firm Stikeman Elliott introduces innovative working methods and enhances the employee and visitor experience by blending hospitality and high-end residential design into a modern, equitable workplace. Moving to a new space across two levels at Bankers Hall in Calgary, the firm sought to update its office to better reflect its identity and reputation. The BIT Wardha academic block was a result of a social endeavour spearheaded by the Shiksha Mandal organisation. Initiated at a time when similar educational institutes were being pulled down due to a lack of fresh enrollment, the client, a century-old organisation based in Wardha, advocated for quality and affordable education in India. The house is designed as a two-level volume that faces the lagoon and beach front of the condominium. The first level, containing the entrance, parking, and private bedroom area, is visually below the boardwalk level and is conceived as a solid concrete base that emerges from the ground. The second level, made up of the social core and master bedroom area, in contrast, is devised as a light element that rests on its base and opens towards the landscape and horizon. From the project inception, the goal of this penthouse design was to blend functionality and program with a unique and edgy architectural aesthetic, all while respecting and highlighting the home’s unequaled panoramic views overlooking Hempstead Harbor.  Working within the bounds of the fixed floor plan in the new construction condominium building, the design process first focused on optimizing elements of circulation, access, and visual sightlines, while minimizing any major modifications to wall or framing locations. The project provides 3 floors of quality private and communal office space and 360 degrees of uninterrupted views of its surroundings. As such the office spaces benefit from direct day light throughout the working hours of the day to ensure high quality working conditions for its occupants.
