Owned by the Swedish State, the Rosenbad is a historic building located in central Stockholm, specifically in the Norrmalm precinct. The building was designed in 1902 by Art Nouveau architect Ferdinand Boberg. This building features ornate sculptural stonework characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. This minimalist one-bedroom apartment is a pied-à-terre for a couple who split their time between New York and Florida. Prior to the renovation, the apartment was dark, despite four west-facing windows along Central Park, so a primary goal was to make the space feel lighter and brighter. Conceptually, millwork volumes - rather than conventional partitions - read as floating objects while delineating the different spaces. This helps stretch the perception of space to the apartment’s perimeter walls. When ATRIN asked us to redesign their office, the idea was to create a blank canvas and start from scratch. All the walls were torn down so that the space could be maximized with transparency continuity and a flood of daylight to provide better working ambience. From the furniture pieces to the artworks, everything was designed and made. Towards the end of the project, over casual tea with our client, we learnt about a large collection of colorful vintage clocks they owned. We proposed to display the collection as a wall of clocks both as a centerpiece for the office, and a means of dividing the main space into foyer and workspace without completely blocking them from one another.
