Coffeebar is a contemporary space in the heart of Silicon Valley’s venture capital center, Menlo Park, California. The design teams collaborated with Coffeebar founder Greg Buchheister to reimagine a building that was once a nail salon and an Asian food market into a curated, modern café that would draw in commuters and residents alike. The exterior was transformed from a simple commodity building to a bespoke retail destination. A simple material palette of steel, cypress, and glass creates a contemporary ambiance while offering durability in a heavy traffic environment. Designed by Tom Mark Henry, it is a soft, feminine and dreamy design inspired by vintage imagery of Venice Beach. “Our brief was to reinvent the California Nails brand by creating a soft and feminine environment, a far cry from the typical nail salon that tends to lack warmth and soul,” says Jade Nottage, Director of Tom Mark Henry. Architect J. Byron-H teamed up with branding studio Weekday Studio to create the interior design concept for Color Camp, a new manicure bar in Los Angeles, California. Located on Beverly Boulevard in the Fairfax District, this 675 square-foot space is the first of its kind in Los Angeles. As an architecture and branding team, we wanted to evoke a sense of playful discovery and avoid the predictable, cluttered environment often associated with contemporary nail salons. Instead, a bright white space is enlivened with bold shapes. Circles, semi-circles, concave and convex shapes play across bolsters, tables, shelving, doorways and branding. Base Minami Aoyama is a three-storied mini fashion business office tenant complex. Its gate-shaped frames line up in slightly shifted way like a series of modern art sculptures. Within these frames, printed glass screens overlap each other, creating unique scenes that changes as you walk in. The slits between gate-shaped frames filter sunlight just like trees and make interior space naturally rich in light and warm atmosphere. These slits run from glass wall to top-light, keeping each gate-shaped frame independent through the top-light. Each gate-shaped frame creates one unit of space composition.
