Library and Learning Centre

Architectural Concept The new Library and Learning Centre rises as a polygonal block from the heart of the new University campus. The interior of the LLC is informed by the external circulation of the masterplan which maps out the different levels of the building. The straight lines of the building’s exterior separate as they move inward, becoming curvilinear and fluid to generate a free-formed interior canyon that serves as the principal public plaza of the centre, as well as generating corridors and bridges ensuring smooth transitions between different levels. Functional Plan The aim of the functional plan is to clearly define the different areas of the building. The plan is translated into a three dimensional object which ou... Mais

Held under the auspices of the Bureau International des Expositions, the Shanghai Expo will be the largest the world has ever seen. Staged on a 5.28km2 city centre site beside the Hu... Mais

The overall design is informed by fl uid dynamics and underwater ecosystems, with hydrodynamic research shaping the design of the hull. The exoskeleton structure of the upper section is an interwoven network of supports that vary in thickness and lend a natural aesthetic to the yacht’s... Mais

The Left-Over-Space House

The Left-Over-Space House, Australia, designed by Cox Rayner Architects has won the ‘World’s Best House’ award at the prestigious World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards 2013. The judging of the WAF Awards is taking place during the largest global celebration of architecture - the World Architecture Festival, which is being held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore this week. Arum Installation and Exhibition; Venice Architecture Biennale

This year’s Biennale theme ‘Common Ground’ shows how the work of the major protagonists of contemporary architecture - often regarded as independent individual creations - is in fact based on historical lineages of collective research. This is also true of the work of Zaha Hadid Architects. It is well known that the early work was initially inspired by Russian Suprematism. In our installation and exhibition at the Biennale we want to show that - apart from the dialogue with the work of contemporary competitors that existed all along - our recent work connects to a rather different historical strand of research. The more our design research and work evolved on the basis of algorithmic form generation, the more we learned to appreciate the... Mais

Adrián Villar Rojas

The inaugural exhibition at the newly opened Serpentine Sackler Gallery, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, presents a site-specific installation by Adrián Villar Rojas. One of the most exciting artists to have emerged in recent years, the Argentinian-born artist has become renowned for his large-scale sculptural works, predominantly made in clay and brick. This exhibition is one of two opening shows for the newly launched Serpentine Galleries, the other, Marisa Merz, will open concurrently at the Serpentine Gallery. Working with a team collaborating builders, sculptors and engineers, Villar Rojas tests the limits of clay to create an apparently fossilised world of ruins and ancient monuments that play with the concept of time, history,... City Life Milan

The high-rise as a building typology has traditionally been treated as a static, fixed strategy; the tower is reduced to a technocratic, engineering ‘solution’ governed by specific economic factors. Architects, in this role, have been left with the spire, exterior shell or, perhaps more significantly, the lobby interior. For the Fiera Milano, Zaha Hadid Architects have investigated the urban location of the tower as a portal, or gate into the Fiera along Viale Scarampo and Via Bartolomeo. Derivations of the passagio from the site into this gate gives shape to a certain torsion or vortex, and it is this movement, this dynamism that we are investigating.Moving from the ground datum of the Piazza Porta Fiera, the retail base of the tower slowl... Tsinghua University Law Library

Kokaistudios has been announced as the winner competition for the new Tsinghua University Law Library located in Beijing, China. The proposal stands out amount the final 5 competing firms including ECUC, RTKL, Zaha Hadid Architects and Zhubo Design Group. The project proposes a reflection on the role of void in structuring functions and programs within the building, defining at the same time its relations with the surrounding. Circulation and public spaces, both indoor and outdoor, are interlocked in a innovative sequence of ‘places’, a coherent continuum of solids and voids directly inspired to the traditional urban carpet of the Courtyard Houses, characteristic of Beijing. Within the proposed site, three new multifunctional building... Mais
