The Tides Brentwood

Our goal in designing this LEED Gold apartment building near Wilshire Boulevard was to engage the neighborhood and celebrate the iconoclastic spirit of Los Angeles. The block was a formerly drab area, dwarfed by bulky office buildings to the South. The triangulated site fronts a large parking lot across the street, and the building’s prominent corner at the Bundy and Goshen intersection is a locus of stalled commuting cars.  We deepened the unique sense of place, Southern California, by pooling of ecologies from around the site, specifically its nearby Pacific Ocean, 3.5 miles West, its predominant sunshine, and it lofty palm trees that border the site itself.   We reflected these contextual elements in the two exposedNorth and East elevatio... Memphis Botanic Garden

Memphis Botanic Garden, comprised of themed garden areas and support buildings, cultivated an outdoor concert series using temporary facilities. The program’s challenge: integrate the facility into the botanic garden’s landscape, while clarifying relationships between new and existing program elements. An outdoor room is formed by surrounding a sloping lawn with boundary elements that leverage adjacencies to other programs and the natural features of the site. The Gateway is a thickened wall, clad in weathering steel, creating an arrival sequence at the northern edge of the venue. Its rigid geometry contrasts the bands of planting and paving material that move around it. It... More

Del Amo

Numerous workstations, private office, conference area, and kitchenette were carefully placed within the existing loft to maximize flow while providing spatial interest. A living wall of mixed plants serves a dual purpose by also serving as an air filtration system. More
