House No.12

Nestled in the suburb of Khar in suburban Mumbai, House no. 12 is an idyllic space amidst the chaos and energy that surrounds Mumbai.  The design brief from the client was to create a home that is suited for a young couple in their early 30’s with a toddler. The aim was to create a space that had a classic, contemporary and modern aesthetic, but at the same time, exude fun, color & eclectic elements through art, accessories, accent furniture and lights. Keeping in mind the design brief as well as the personality, the designers decided to keep the shell of the home neutral and monochromatic in terms of floor and wall finishes, to add an element of layering to the space. Grey ceramic tiles have been used through the living, din... More

Saltwater Farm

Sited near the pristine shoreline of Washington’s San Juan Island – an island only accessible by sea or air – lies Saltwater Farm at Friday Harbor, a stylish boutique hotel and rural retreat on 162 wild and beautiful acres. The project includes five small guest cabins and a two-story house for the clients and their two children.   The inn, farm, and family home are realizations of the couple’s longtime dream of leaving the city for a simpler life immersed in nature. After inviting the architects to camp on the land and explore the property, five small cabins were thoughtfully placed amidst towering pines to ensure solitude and privacy for guests. While the cabins are formally identical with a refined, Scandina... More

7 minimalist projects that were detailed to perfection

Crematorium Siesegem by KAAN Architecten Here, the choice of materials and detailing are paramount to achieving a placid mood. For the exterior, KAAN Architecten chose the rhythm of béton brut. For the interior, the walls are matt and have a textured render, while the ceiling has a rough sprayed finish to ensure muted acoustics – a fundamental feature of such a building. Oak parquet floors have been chosen for the family rooms and the cafeteria. Campus Joachimstrasse by David Chipperfield Architects Monolithic walls are made of insulating concrete and assume almost all architectural functions: they support, insulate, protect, and define interior and exterior space. The interior finishes are reduced: polished screed floor... More

OPEN HOUSE 10

White minimalism and a sense of openess: this is how we can describe this house, where minimal solutions and antique furniture coexist perfectly. A precise difference between the bedrooms area and the living area is the most evident characterization. On the kitchen desk the blackness of lava stone breaks the white, adding a playful elements with the hexagons that go up to the wall. More

Coffee Machine Red

COFFEE MACHINE RED | CONCEPT | RUSSIA | 93 SQ. M This project started with a dialogue. The owners of a Coffee Machine cafe chain were thinking of potential places for opening a new cafe and were wondering what format it could be in. In the beginning, they asked us to conduct a study and come up with a design solution. This was our third collaboration with this company. Our first project was a small drive-through cafe, then we designed their flagship coffee shop, which was opened downtown. In this project, we wanted to take a fresh look at the communication with the cafe visitors and create a new format of interaction with them. As a result, we took all features of the premises into account and created this concept within the framework of... More

INTERIOR | RUSSIA | 81 SQ. M What is coziness and comfort? These words mean different things for different people. If one has clear understanding of individual housing requirements, they can create an ideal environment for a particular person. This apartment does not have such usual pieces of furniture as a sofa in the living room or a dining table in the kitchen area. The client had a clear understanding of what they would like to see at home, and what they were ready to dispose of according to their lifestyle. Taking into account the tasks set, it was possible to create a space the functional solutions of which formed the comfort of individualism. More
