XYZ House

Wengen, SwitzerlandThe horizon is the line that emphasizes the infinite- Victor HugoSitting majestically high in the Alps, the cruciform like assemblage contains three bold architectural volumes clad in corten steel. Conceptually the project is organized by three mutually perpendicular planes (the three Cartesian coordinates of x, y, and z): An entry tunnel/bridge, a tower which contains the vertical circulation (staircase and elevator) and the main habitable space, which is suspended weightlessly above the valley below. In essence, this is a dwelling meaningfully stripped of all nostalgia from the material world. One is immediately reminded of the great German romantic poets and painters like Caspar David Friedrich and the poet Heinrich He... More

Bond Street Loft - Noho New York

This NoHo apartment, in a landmarked circa 1870 building designed by Stephen Decatur Hatch and converted to lofts in 1987, had been interestingly renovated by a rock musician before being purchased by a young hedge fund manager and his gallery director girlfriend. Naturally, the couple brought to the project their collection of painting, photography and sculpture, mostly by young emerging artists (Eddie Martinez, Aaron Curry, Adam Pendelton and Sam Curry, Jung Lee). Axis Mundi accommodated these pieces within a neutral palette accented with occasional flashes of bright color that referenced the various artworks. Major furniture pieces – a sectional in the library, a 12-foot-long dining table–along with a rich blend of textures such as leath... More

W Residence

This is a 150㎡ apartment in Taiwan with a strip of horizontal window looking out to the city.  The new owner is a three-generation family. The elder favors grandeur, lush marble and rich wood grain; the young couple prefers bright space, light color and relaxing atmosphere.  The only common they have is that they need storage and wish to have as much space as possible for children to move freely. We create a neutral background with white ceiling and light wooden floor in which stone and wood-veneer blocks are placed.  These blocks are positioned to define space without separate it and serve as storage unit.  Sliding-doors and movable-walls convert the space, and hide away secret balcony or chamber in each room.... Mask House

The Mask House is a two-storey dwelling that grounds its presence by embracing juxtapositional qualities in order to set an example for its neighbourhood which is undergoing a rapid gentrification. Located at the Roncesvalles Village, in the west end of Toronto, the project was designed and built respecting the narrow elongated trapezoidal site, the limited budget, the very restricted Zoning & By-laws, and of course a demanding brief from the client. Yet, the outcome brings vivid energy, inspires renewal, and suggests possibilities that design can offer.   The façade may challenge the viewer to speculate a direct relation between manners of the exterior and the interior, assuming alikeness of aesthetics with ethics in rega... Restoration of the Tomáš Baťa Memorial in Zlín

The building by František Lýdie Gahura, opened one year after the death of Tomáš Baťa, is the most valuable monument of the Zlín constructivism and the highlight of the so-called “Baťa architecture” phenomenon. At the first glance the idea for the monument is simple: an empty prism placed on a visible spot above the town, on the central axis of the ascending park space, made up of several modules of the Zlín 6.15 x 6.15 m frame and clad only with cathedral glass. Inside, only the ill-fated Junkers F 13 aircraft in which Tomáš Baťa died in 1932. Gahura reduced the monument to three basic materials of Zlín architecture – concrete, steel and glass that were s... Philosophers Apartment

We had to create a space for a couple who appreciates silence and solitude. It was important to make it spacious and at the same time allow each of the tenants to be alone with themselves. We chose eco-friendly plywood as the main material for walls and furniture.   We gave the maximum space to the living room with the kitchen, while the cooking surface itself was hidden behind a low wall. The balcony became a dining room with circular glazing windows.   All technical areas are designed very compact and put near the entrance area with low natural lighting. This is done in order to free up as much space as possible for the living area.   The bedroom and the study room are also combined -- they are illuminated by one wind... More

Home Family

The space presented by the office rescues the human ties of affection and coziness   ‘I don’t need a chair, I don’t need a sofa, I only need you siting in the living room’, already said Arnaldo Antunes in the verses and stanzas of the song ‘A Casa é Sua’. Inspired and guided by the essence and nature that those words emanate, Bruno Carvalho e Camila Avelar, thinking minds behind BC Architects success, newcomer office in CASACOR São Paulo, presents the ‘Home Family’, a 62m² room, multifunctional, that prizes the reencounter of affection relations, in a humanized way, where the coziness and comfort are premises.   With the ‘Casa Viva’ (Live House) con... Office Castle Waldenburg

In the beautiful ambience of Waldenburg Castle, in completely redesigned rooms with modern interior furnishings, we plan, design and realize our custom-made villa and object architecture. The entire interior concept was renovated, redesigned, extended and equipped with selected interior furnishings. Our aim was to create a pleasant and representative working atmosphere, where the present and the past harmonize rather than compete. The unusual atmosphere of the entire office is further enhanced by an interesting collection of various art objects such as paintings and sculptures by well-known artists. In cooperation with the Gallery Cyprian Brenner, numerous exhibits were carefully selected and placed in suitable places throughout the entir... More

Pivexin Technology HQ - office building and wareh

The aim of the project was to develop a comprehensive vision of the new headquarters of Pivexin Technology. The designed space consists of an office building with social facilities, a warehouse and the land around the buildings including a driveway, parking area and decorative greenery.ARCHITECTURAL COMPOSITION Although the office building and the warehouse serve different functions, they needed to be connected to each other (due to the company’s activity). Therefore, we have merged the structures of both buildings and created a coherent and functional system of independent elements – one cuboidal block that includes different types of spaces. The outer skin of the building is black, however, the two functional blocks - office and industri... More

TheLoveTriangle Gallery

Design collective TheLoveTriangle has designed and completed its off-grid pavilion in Baabdat, Lebanon. The pavilion aims to provide its members with a space for experimentation, exhibitions and art residencies. The designers aimed to create a peaceful space, a gesture that would not compete with the surrounding landscape and would provide a neutral canvas for the artists and exhibitors.therefore, the design of the pavilion was stripped down to a pure and primitive architectural form – a rectangle of 96 sqm (1033 sqft), discreetly nested in a clearing between the pine trees. The structure’s transparent glazing allows for a natural connection with the site. The pavilion sits in a location that was historically used for agricultural p... More

The house gazes at the street and the neighbourhood through the eyes of the two symmetrical windows, punctured on the mass cantilevered above the main floor, which resembles a face sneaking forward. Located at the Scarborough Junction, in the east end of Toronto, it was created respecting the narrow site, the restrictive budget, and all the speculations. Despite all these limitations, the house is like a curious creature; it contaminates its surrounding, made of typical Torontonian infill houses, with livelihood and inspires the possibility of design which belongs to everyone and everywhere. The Gazing House originates from the two squares divided by the central circulation axis. This abstract formal system establishes a sense of order which... More

According to the wishes of the customers and interior trends we decided to make these apartments in a minimalistic style. Comfortable furniture, functional storage areas, different lighting, allowing to create a unique atmosphere for our customers and their guests. As part of compositional design we had to create common space with kitchen and dining area and a living room and a common entrance area, also we had to make a laconic planning and continue an idea of minimalism and functionality selecting the furniture. We used natural and industrial (but harmless) materials. The walls are painted, veneered panels, granite and glass also were used. Depending on the features of a particular area we used a variety of floor coverings: micro-cement, fl... More

Project • By Brengues Le Pavec ArchitectesResidential Landscape

The compact and opaque typology of the buildings of the original house did not take advantage of the landscaping quality offered by the immediate proximity of a public park. To meet the need for expansion, the agency recommended that the house be renovated by occupying the night area, giving it more intimate spaces, and designing a contrasting extension, by means of a very open volume for the day spaces.          The installation of a narrow extension has been designed to occupy all the exterior. This layout generates a clearer reading and identifies spaces, such as the new entrance to the north, or the pool to the south. With reference to the Farnsworth House by Mies Van Der Rohe, the t... D 13

The clients - a South African born couple that returned to Cape Town after residing abroad for two decades approached us to design them a permanant residencie that would be entriely in touch with nature, be simple and unique with the emphasis on natural light and space. They were specific with their brief for a home that allowed for maximum sunlight to be captured and filtered throughout the house by the day, invite the unobscured view into their home whilst maintaining maximum privacy. The architects had numerous site visits, at different times of the day, in order to get a thorough sense of the sites’ genius loci. This new residence for a family of four, is situated between the urban edge and Riebeekstrand in Cape Town. The site allowed... More
