Apartment 308S

The refurbishment of this three bedroom apartment located in the “model superquadra” in Brasília*, has completely reconfigured the existing plan. Although the internal organization of the was still original, most of the materials had already been changed ordeconfigured, except by the original mechanichal metal blinds that were restored and incorporated to the new project.   The main objective was to replace some of the walls and partitions by translucent elements and to directly connect the new dining room, the kitchen and the main bedroom´s private bath to the building´s naturally ventilated facade. This “in between” space was originally occupied by service rooms that were either eliminated... More

Avian Apartment

This project involved the refurbishment and redecoration of a prestigious private apartment in Brisbane, Australia. Located within an iconic Harry Seidler building, the refresh sought to extend and evolve the fluid form and function embedded in the architecture with a focus on art as an integrated expression of ingenuity. The client brief was to reimagine the apartment into a luxurious and impressive residence with a light and welcoming atmosphere within a moderate budget and timeframe. Laden with generic black and red furniture on a stark palette of finishes, the initial space felt cold and abrupt. There was no cohesion between the look, feel and function of the interior, which dramatically degraded the impact of the architecture. Whilst a... More

Anglicare's St James Chapel Official Opening

The new St James’ Chapel and Dover Hall, designed by Jackson Teece and built by Lipman is central to Anglicare’s Retirement Living and Aged Care precinct in Castle Hill, and officially opened last month. Pinned delicately to the sloped site at four points, it imbues a sense of stillness, calm and strength.   The Chapel and terrace span a 940m2 footprint. A lightweight, perforated aluminium veil, encases the ceramic clad and glazed building underneath, allowing a soft dappled light to filter through into the internal space throughout the day. This atmospheric effect, combined with a warm interior palette creates a golden, heavenly hue, enveloping its visitors as they take part in a variety of ceremonial, social and cultura... More

Black Perch

Black Perch is the extension and refurbishment of an existing, 40 year old bungalow, located in a tight urban fabric, using most of the permissible ground cover before the extension was added.  As no other space was available, the extension is placed on top of the existing, split level building. It adds a large living room with a kitchenette and a study cum guest room to the top of the house.  All spaces overlook a large open to sky courtyard, which steps down the existing sloping roof.   Alien-like this clean, black cube is perching on top of the old structure, as if landed from the sky, pushing on all sides up to the margin line, cantilevering far over the entrance side of the old house. All four outer sides of the cube a... More

Ex Tribunale

The Municipality of Bressanone (in the region Trentino Alto Adige, Italy) is gradually changing its skin.    This process has taken place for many years, with important private and public projects selected through international competitions. Those operations are both on small and large scale and involve several actors and different types of partnership. The quality of these projects is the same one that characterizes different aspects of this region, among them the contemporary architecture. A slow transformation is taking place also inside the city of Bressanone; moreover, it is working in a silent way, almost discreet, without revealing itself to whom is walking in the historical city centre.   This metamorphosis has in... Malvern Residence

This full refurbishment, located within an early Merchant Builder’s development, comprised a new kitchen, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, robes, study and overall space planning. All surfaces but the fantastic timber ceiling were updated. Here, our design intent was decisive from the get-go: try to be as sympathetic to the initial design (what’s not to love about the 70s!), while updating the space for current, and future, needs. We introduced earthy textures via a range of new materials; the existing, lush greenery outdoors was embraced, so aspects encouraging further interaction between interior and exterior set a precedent; and the existing carpet was pulled up to expose concrete which was then polished throughout.   Key... Training Center and offices Lavazza Deutschland

To mark the twentieth anniversary of Helmut Newton’s first photographic calendar for Lavazza, the Group decided to renovate the Frankfurt offices, an important milestone as they were acquired at the beginning of the company’s international expansion. The offices are housed in a multi-storey tower, opposite the location where the fair Messe Frankfurt is held. The plan of the building is misaligned with a rectangular section joined, on the opposite side, to an elongated semi-circle. The refurbishment is thus an opportunity to extend the offices to the entire floor. This project transforms a vast section of the semi-circle into a single open-plan space, lined with uninterrupted glazing, facing west, and a curved wall which shapes... More

Merrild Training Center and offices - Denmark

In 2015, Lavazza acquired the Danish group Merrild, a leading coffee manufacturer in the retail industry in both Denmark and the Baltic region. With the take-over came a desire to reorganise the company’s structure and image and to undertake the much-needed refurbishment of the Danish offices. So, the main intent was to draw attention to the fusion of the two conglomerates, although still granting visibility to Merrild and its respective culture. The refurbished building has typical Northern-European features, with 1800 sqms set in extremely pleasant and quiet surroundings. The client’s main requirement was to integrate, from the standpoint of style and image, the distinctive brand identities of Lavazza and Merrild, by combin... More

Carme Apartment

The refurbishment is in one of the main floor apartments, which has access to three patios. They are filled with plants and have received a landscape treatment with the aim of creating a space of disconnection despite the crazy cosmopolitan rhythm. The intervention consists in renovating a dwelling using a contemporary program that keeps in mind the existing architecture and prioritizes the maintenance and recovery of primary building elements such as carpentry, shutters and hydraulic flooring. These elements, with their wounds and wrinkles, are the ones providing a clear added value. Their efforts concentrate on developing strategies and rigorous methods to create high-quality projects, providing services which add value and for the user... More
