Chichester - Grand Designs

As showcased on a recent episode of Channel 4’s Grand Designs, CUPA 12 natural slate has been specified for a spectacular new build project in Chichester. Selected to enhance the property’s modern aesthetic, the slate roof also complements the rural surroundings, which include a wildlife pond along with a variety of plant life.    Property owners Daniel and Nina Rowland both work professionally within the construction sector; Daniel heads up architectural firm Studio Fuse, while Nina is an interior designer. Omaha House

Completed in 2018, the Omaha house overlooks the estuary facing west. An awkward shaped site and the desire to connect the occupants with the stunning water surrounds led to a three-formed or winged structure connected with glazed hallways. Abodo’s Vulcan Cladding with Sioo:x finish gives the humble “board + batten” cladding a longer-lasting and low-maintenance finish and fits in sympathetically with the coastal environment. Vulcan Cladding is made from thermally modified timber, a process which uses heat and steam rather than chemicals, and results in a highly stable, durable timber. Sioo:x is a reactive coating, which weathers evenly to a beautiful silver grey after exposure to the elements. This process accelerates t... More

Salty Cabins

Based near Byron Bay, Salty Builds and Salty Stays is run by an energetic trio who make every decision based on how it will affect the Earth. This ethos led them to choose Abodo’s FSC®-certified Vulcan timber for the cabins at their eco retreat. Armed with this solution, Salty Stays created The Cabin, an off-grid, self contained and very Instagrammable escape on the hilltop, built using Abodo Vulcan timber battens with a Sioo:x finish. Sioo:x is a silicate-based wood finish that is designed to silver off over time, meaning it requires very little maintenance and can last up to ten years before needing to be reapplied. Created using FSC certified New Zealand timber, Abodo Vulcan is locally made and thermally modified for increase... More

Heron House

The homeowner’s brief was for a small, fun, carefully crafted home. Additionally, it had to be materially interesting and cost effective. For the home’s exterior, Architects Pac Studio chose Abodo Vulcan vertical timber cladding alongside Zincalume® alloy. Combining these elements gives the building the feeling like it has been there forever - a found object, or vernacular shed, weathered by a life well lived. Caption Caption While the Vulcan timber cladding was chosen for its durability, stability and eco credentials (being sourced locally from FSC® certified forests), the Sioo:x Natural Wood Coating was chosen for its muted, weathered finish. Te Hononga Hundertwasser Memorial Park

This new facility in Kawakawa continues the environmental and artistic legacy of late Austrian artist, architect and dedicated local resident Friedensreich Hundertwasser with a building that uses eco-friendly materials and invites visitors and locals to come together and celebrate the arts and culture of the area.   Architectural designer Pip Bolton of Avail Pacific in Kerikeri created the design. She chose to use Abodo Vulcan Cladding as a natural timber to offset the rammed earth wall elements, which are a significant feature of the building’s design and reflect Hundertwasser’s love of natural materials and forms. Caption The design of the building reflects two hearts coming together, which means all walls are cur... More

The interior reflects warmth, texture and heart with a crafted carpentry of exposed timber structure, and highly grained timber panelling evocative of sarking in early period cottages in the area. Abodo timbers are sourced from... More

The Little White Abode

The Little White Abode is a two storey home with plunge pool and rooftop terrace in beachside Perth, Western Australia.   Designed by celebrated Australian designer Mon Palmer, this home uses carefully crafted timber fins in Vulcan finished with Sioo:x to create a natural feature to the higher elevations.    The Sioo:x finish will slowly silver to a grey/white – blending in with the neutral tones and minimising maintenance for Mon and her family.    As a quality thermally modified timber, Vulcan was a perfect solution to ensure there was no leaching on the white walls.
