ZNA Cadix Hospital

Situated at the head of Spoor Noord, the hospital is a hinge between the park, the docks and the city, and thus benefits from each of their qualities. The limited surface area of the site requires the hospital to be organised vertically. The hospital structure has a clearly discernible layered construction. All outpatient activities with consultation rooms, centres of knowledge and medical technical services are in the lowest section. The various nursing units are located in an L-shape at the top of the pedestal, above which is the administrative block. This entirety is bisected horizontally several times by interweaving the building with its surroundings. The hospital anchors itself in the urban fabric by releasing the entire ground floor... More

Spanish architect José Luis Franchez Apecechea restores medieval landmark Velasco Tower to former glory

Spanish architect José Luis Franchez Apecechea recently completed the sensitive restoration of Velasco Tower, also known as Rada. Located in the municipality of Lodosa, Spain, the tower has been declared a Property of Cultural Interest. The construction of the original Velasco Tower took place in around 1487, at the behest of the Lord of Arnedo, Sancho Fernández de Velasco – a part of one of the great Castilian lineages of that time. José Luis Larrión The construction has a square plan which features atypical architectural elements of late medieval Navarra, a singularity that makes it unique among the towers of the old Kingdom of Navarre. DC3 Tower

The tower in Vienna’s Donauplatte area complements the towers DC 1 and DC 2 by Dominique Perrault and offers 832 apartments for temporary living. The 100-meter-high building is connected on several levels to the existing Donaucity quarter as well as to the transport network via public plazas and paths. The projections of the three-dimensionally warped façade elements correspond to cozy alcoves, which frame the view of the Danube and the city in every room. Dietrich Untertrifaller Urban Context The narrow property – hardly more than a traffic island, surrounded by Wagramerstraße, motorway access and underground line – presented us with great planning challenges. But the attractive location on the Danube... More

Modern Classic Style quarter in Yekaterinburg

Na Nekrasova, a new residential quarter, is located in the centre of Yekaterinburg. Despite its central location, the area has always served an industrial function with utility blocks and private garages. Located nearby are a railway with a train park, office buildings, a metro station and a boating station on the quay. In 2020 Brusnika launched a redevelopment project aiming to integrate this area into the urban fabric, making it well appointed, safe and attractive for city-dwellers.  Caption The plot master plan was designed by a Dutch KCAP bureau. The architects divided the area into four separate residential blocks located around a linear park. One side of the park area abuts onto a pedestrian bridge and a ravine with disused... More

Tower and urban block in the centre of Novosibirsk

Two buildings in the centre of Novosibirsk are part of a large redevelopment project, which Brusnika launched in 2012. The development company provided accommodation for residents of unfit houses, which were later demolished to start construction works. In 2016 the first house in the area was accomplished, and in 2021 a housing complex designed by DROM, a Netherlands based bureau, was brought to completion.   Caption The team first designed a master plan for two land plots, and later developed the buildings to fit in. The project comprises a U-shaped block with a tower. A quiet pedestrian street links the houses, and the neighbouring housing estate can be reached by crossing a small park. In contrast to the eclectic and sparse ho... More

A stepped tower rises9 units up from a 5 x 2-unit base. Originally built from 17 units with a subsequent extension of the shop by 2 lateral modules, today 19 refurbished overseas containers form the Freitag Flagship Store.
