Joseph Sung

Architect from 8B Huguenot Place, London, United Kingdom
Born 1971 in Seoul, Korea, Joseph Sung is the founder of VONSUNG. Joseph's interest in design has always been broad, respecting traditional aspects of architecture and space, while believing in breaking boundaries. A total concept designer, Joseph's intentions are focused on material-based approach to design, avoiding clichés in cutting, pasting and remixing in his projects. On every opportunity, Joseph explores the relationship between the material and the human body. He contends that we feel happy when we are surrounded by particles of pleasant dimensions. Our bodies are not comfortable with a particle that is larger or smaller than the optimal level. In each project, Joseph seeks total design solutions that bring us closer to this essential organic goal.

While his practice is best known for commercial design, Joseph has extensively built a wide range of pursuits in design including interior & architectural direction and retail & hospitality branding. His work has expanded to Korea, Japan, Russia, Turkey, Italy, France, England and United States. In 2009, Joseph was honoured as his practice was short-listed for Best Restaurant in the Independent Restaurant category from the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards, an annual international interior design award rewarding both designers and operators for design excellence.

Joseph holds a bachelor's degree from the New York University and a post-graduate degree from Columbia University. Joseph is an Affiliate Member of RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects).
