Naration Earth is awaiting to be reborned. A reborn of human conciousness. A conciousness to be wiser. Wiser to use the resouces in the planet. A planet that have history of destruction. This art/architecture instalation will not be able to reborn it. It is only sending a message of possibility to utilize plantation wood as the substitution of forest wood. A message about hopes. About living in a new life.
Facts In 1997, the area of rubber plantation was about 3.4 million hectares in Indonesia. If 3 percent of big estate and 2 percent of smallholder areas would be replanted every year, it could provide 2.7 million m3 of rubber wood per year. The utililization of rubber wood is only 27% from the overall volume and limited to the furniture and export comodity. Material and the characteristic Rubber wood is one kind of plantation wood that has potency as raw material for wood industry. Density of rubber wood is 0.62–0.65 g/cm3 equal to oaks, mahogany, and acasia. Relatively more stable and flexibel compare to the other wood.
Design A place of waiting. A place to hide. A place to think. Separate from the busy activities. A place that hard to see the inside. A place that good to observe the outside. Like a warm nest. A coocon. An egg. A place to reform. Metamorphosis. Reborn. Rencarnate.
Technique It is difficult to find rubber wood in a long and wide dimension instead of using lamination techniques. The instalation uses over 3000 pieces in short and narrow dimension. The biggest is 2.5x10x80cm and the smallest is 2.5x2.5x80cm. They were stacked in a way to demonstrate the flexibility of rubber wood which the upper load is placed in the middle of each piece. This configuration could create the effect of solidness while it could be very transparent from inside. Every piece is tightened with screw.
