In Guangzhou, China, the T.I.T. Creative Park is a complex of buildings once home to a textile machinery factory. Today, it is home to many creative new businesses that are a showcase of the city’s evolving and rapidly modernizing garment and textile history. One of the latest additions is a retail space for ZS (Zi Shi) Lab, a maker of T-shirts and sweaters.

With a total floor area of 1,100 square meters, the fully redeveloped and expanded industrial building spans three floors. Expressing brand concepts such as timelessness and purity, Zi Shi’s core values, new facades and a raised and extended roof designed by DOMANI Architectural Concepts help to open up the industrial space. Generous windows and ceiling openings allow for daylight to flood not only the upper level, but also all the way down to the ground floor thanks to cut-outs created in the new façade.

To the north of the building, a steel staircase connects to the upper floor while also including a seating area that allows for gatherings outdoors.

Traditional building materials are largely used, with simple white finishing in latex paint. Speaking to the simplicity of material selected, the architects explain, ‘We believe that the bones decide the detail, not the skin.’

Furnishings largely consist of glass display tables in a variety of sizes and configurations along with white office chairs. Large circular mirrors on a solid rock base are used as punctuation elements throughout.
