Baden-Württemberg is one of the sixteen German federal states, located in the southwest, at the border with France and Switzerland. The good ol' days have returned, and can be relived up close in Bernkastel-Kues, a city on the Central Moselle river near what is known as the Zylinderhaus. This museum opened in 2017 and was highly desired by its founder Bernd Benninghoven, and relays 80 years of German automobile history. The impressive façade, reminiscent of an old industrial building, is made of Geopietra® brick-effect wall covering. The contemporary architecture of the villa is composed by a shape sorter of volumes, spaces and openings, all in the name of clean shapes. The Creativo model in warm shade and slightly iridescent of Bianco Conchiglia, covers the lower floor and the high volumes that develop vertically from it to support the large terrace. The Creativo model is laid dry in a mix of large and small elements, in the same proportions. Architects Francois Hannes and Tom Kneepkens renovated the villa, drawing inspiration from 1960s James Bond films and American 1950s and 60s aesthetics. Hannes focused on the interiors, considering sight lines and light incidence, while Kneepkens reinvented the exteriors, designing bespoke interior spaces for the residents, blending everything into a stunning whole. A renovation project that enhances some pre-existing architectural elements. The renovation allowed to enhance the original structure, keeping intact the architectural characteristics that make it unique. The existing architectural elements were integrated harmoniously with the new additions, creating a visual and functional balance.
