When Slack asked O+A to create its new multi-floor headquarters in San Francisco one design story presented itself immediately. Slack’s CEO Stewart Butterfield is an outdoorsman, a hiker who goes off grid every year and recharges in the various types of wilderness—desert, mountains, forest—that make up the Pacific Crest Trail. Because that trail forms a bridge between two of Slack’s offices in Vancouver and San Francisco it seemed a thematic link too rich to pass up. This office building opposite the city centre houses many company offices, doctors surgeries, restaurants and cafes.BEGA bollards show passers-by the way to the Digitalpark building, day and night. The large areas of light, which easily extend as far as the step area, are provided by special lighting technology.Four office towers are interconnected by a long building block. In view of its unusual cubature and glass façade reminiscent of ground stone, the LVM high-rise building opened in Münster in 2014 has been dubbed the “crystal”. Covering a total of 6000 square metres, the double glass façade was developed from geometrical shapes and extends at an angle in various directions. The 17-storey building rises to a height of 63 metres over the Münster landscape. At a height of 40 metres, the new building is connected by a 20-metre long bridge to the existing LVM administrative building.The square between the two towers is integrated with an open space into the public area at Kolde-Ring. 35 Lower Long, an elegant 86-metre glass-clad office tower, has recently been completed which will invigorate Cape Town’s emerging financial and hospitality district. The building, developed by Abland Property Developers and designed by dhk Architects, is characterised by a singular sculpted massing which is transformed via dynamic glazed planes that extend seamlessly over the office and parking levels. Bangladesh Railway is an extremely important organization with a proud heritage. Therefore the head-office building of Railway needed to be such a building that will be an iconic building in the city. The way the building has been conceived is that of a multi-faceted sculpture that shifts away from the harsh sun light of the west and faces towards the south-east. This faceting not only improves the quality of light and reduces heat gain inside the building but it also creates an abstract sculptural quality of which will make the building extremely unique in the skyline of the CDB of Dhaka city.
