Veneer options, colors, and finish

Aluratone panels offer a range of veneer options, including Rulon standard species, domestic and exotic woods, and FSC-certified veneers. They can be installed with various finishes, such as clear, Rulon standard colors, or custom color matching. Custom stains, clear sealers, and color treatments are expertly applied using advanced finishing equipment, allowing for personalized color choices. Additionally, Aluratone panels are engineered with acoustics in mind, enhancing the sound quality of any space while retaining the natural beauty of wood. Installation techniques like C-hangers and torsion springs facilitate easy access above the ceiling, ensuring individual panel accessibility. Light holes and other penetrations can be precisely factory-cut using advanced CNC manufacturing equipment, with seamless MEP integrations achievable in the field.

Applications

Aluratone panels are designed for high-end building projects where acoustical performance is required. Rulon has had many successful installations in performing arts centers, U.S. embassies around the world, office buildings, schools, airports, churches, hospitals, libraries, casinos, museums, lecture halls, and other high-profile projects, government office buildings, and performing arts centers.

Slotted

Aluratone 100 panels are slotted acoustical panels with many options available. Custom-routed patterns allow for maximum sound control and design customization. Non-routed sections are provided at borders and coordinated MEP integrations. Custom slot patterns can be engineered to provide job-specific solutions, such as aligning with mullions and creating borders for penetrations.

Composite

Aluratone 5X0 offers a finely grooved face in a 1-1/2” thick composite acoustical panel. These panels use a multi-step manufacturing approach for maximum sound attenuation and still allow you to emphasize the rich beauty of wood.

Perforated

Aluratone 700 panels are perforated acoustical panels. Simple, yet clean drill patterns deliver excellent sound attenuation at a fraction of the cost. Non-drilled sections are provided at borders and coordinated MEP integrations.

Micro-perforated

Aluratone 7X0 series panels are manufactured to limit the visibility of perforations. These panels combine micro-perforated veneers with acoustically engineered substrates designed for performance without the loss of aesthetics. Aluratone 7X0 can be manufactured in custom-sized panels or with tongue and groove edge assembly, which creates a continuous monolithic appearance.

Micro-grooved

Aluratone 8X0 series panels are manufactured to limit the visibility of the grooves. These micro-grooved acoustic panels deliver smaller, less visible U-shaped grooves with no loss of acoustical performance. Aluratone 8X0, like many other panel options. can be manufactured in custom-sized panels or with tongue and groove edge assembly for a continuous monolithic appearance.

V-grooved

Aluratone 9X0 series panels have modern V-shaped grooves that limit the visibility of internal panel construction while providing excellent sound attenuation. These panels can also be manufactured with tongue and groove edge assembly for a continuous monolithic appearance.

U-grooved

Aluratone 900 panels are a cost-effective acoustical solution. These budget-friendly acoustic panels are supplied with a U-shaped groove pattern and provide maximum sound attenuation. Similar to other panel options, Aluratone 900 can be manufactured in custom-sized panels or with tongue and groove edge assembly for a continuous monolithic appearance.

Installation

Installation varies, depending on project requirements, including whether accessibility will or will not be required after the installation is complete. Through the use of, Tortion springs, C-hangers, or Z Clips, aluratone is easy to install.

Sustainability

FSC-certified materials, recycled content, and low VOC adhesives, finishes, and composite cores are all options when selecting products from the Aluratone family.

Care and maintenance

Panels are coated with a durable, moisture-resistant commercial finish, making it imperative to avoid moisture accumulation to prevent damage. Unlike true oil-rubbed surfaces, modern finishes do not require polishing, oiling, or waxing, as these practices may hinder future touch-up or refinishing efforts. Cleaning should be gentle, avoiding abrasives or chemical cleaners, and utilizing a soft, damp cloth for routine maintenance. Oil or grease deposits can be removed with mild flax soap, following the recommended dilution. Care should be taken to avoid excessive impact, as the wood's cellular structure can compact under pressure, impacting the finish. Additionally, exposure to localized high heat or direct sunlight should be minimized to preserve the wood's appearance over time. Proper humidity levels, as per guidelines from the Architectural Woodwork Institute, should be maintained to mitigate wood movement. Lastly, refrain from applying masking tape or adhesive products directly to the wood's surface, as they may damage custom finishes.

Maureen A Daly Building

The University of Tampa intended to elevate its cybersecurity and entrepreneurship education globally, resulting in the Maureen A. Daly Innovation and Collaboration Building. Spanning 213,000 square feet across 8 stories, the building holds various academic and administrative areas, including the John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center. This center features executive lecture halls, pitch rooms, and informal lounges, all adorned with walnut wood panels, including Aluratone acoustical panels. Rulon International played a crucial role in ensuring precise fitting and installation, collaborating closely with design and construction teams. The use of 3D renderings aided visualization, while the installation team ensured the accurate placement of panels. The complex layout incorporates Aluratone acoustical panels, Curvalon curved panels, and flat veneer panels, with site teams providing location-specific field dimensions for cut-to-size panels. Now complete, the center represents an impressive achievement in cybersecurity and entrepreneurship learning spaces.

Milken Institute School of Public Health

With a legacy spanning close to two hundred years, George Washington University continues its mission of nurturing forward-thinking leaders. Embracing sustainable design principles, the university's latest addition is a seven-story open interior featuring concrete and bamboo panels, achieving both an urban aesthetic and LEED platinum certification. The installation presented challenges, particularly navigating tight radii throughout the building. Despite these hurdles, Rulon International's bamboo veneer Aluratone panels seamlessly complemented the concrete structure, creating a striking contrast. Rounded corners delineated classroom spaces, adding visual interest while ensuring optimal acoustical performance. The incorporation of grooved acoustical and non-acoustical panels in the lobby effectively mitigated noise, enhancing the ambiance. In the auditorium, a strategic blend of acoustical panel products alongside flat veneered panels minimized reverberation, optimizing the acoustic environment for lectures and presentations.
