The house rests on a hill that commands a panoramic view of the Seto Inland Sea. Prior to the renovation a forest windbreak had obstructed the view of the sea from the house. We capitalized on the renovation oceanic view into the design. The house adopts a hybrid structure; reinforced concrete for the first floor and wood for the second floor. The first floor is a closed space that accommodates the bedrooms, etc., and serves as the house’s “armor” against strong from the sea. In contrast, the second floor comprises an expansive living space that opens to the sea. The roof truss that supports the gigantic roof extends dynamically toward the sea. To louvers, which are intentionally placed in low positions, moderately screen the sunlight thereby enhancing the colors and expressions of the sea.
