In the ex industrial area, close to the port of Reykjavik, land reclamation work has begun in the area that will host a new residential lot consisting of six buildings, for a total of 210 apartments, for which Studio Marco Piva has been commissioned to plan the Interior Design. Atelier Tobia Zambotti designed a minimalist-pop apartment in Reykjavík, an exotic oasis in the northernmost capital of the World. The design, from the layout to the choice of colours and finishes, addresses the problem of living in the North by creating clean and simple spaces enlivened by exotic touches and accents of colour. It reflects the client’s easy-going lifestyle by playing with ingenuity and eccentricity within a stark framework of white surfaces and bespoke italian furniture. Three axes form the basis for the guesthouse: public, private, and the relationship of earth to sky. These three axes respond to the site’s topographic undulations, rotation in plan and vertical hierarchy as the landscape slopes up to a gentle hill.  The public axis connects the entry point to an exterior hot springs pool accessed through an underground channel. Beyond the massive entry walls sits a shared dining space with scattered intimate gathering spaces warmed by firewood. At the intersection of the public axis and the vertical axis sits a viewing deck at roof level to admire the Northern Lights. Our design, inspired by the nature and local environment potentials, is a response to the environmental issues. Our creative solution is in line with a trend, in which the architectural design considers the consequences of environment destruction by human beings and seeks a sustainable futuristic solution. Utilizing the new construction methods and digital tools, our idea has evolved considering local traditions, in order to achieve a design in which local skills and environmental conditions can be employed to create a sustainable environment and an enjoyable space. "Solvallagata68" is a residential project commissioned by a very friendly and social family who is used to host friends and relatives on a daily basis. For this reason the design concept’s goal was to create a spacious open-plan living area encouraging family members and their guests to spend time together.
