Certifications
- Tripolis Park’s BREEAM-NL Outstanding rating applies specifically to the new construction component, the landscraper building, Het Venster.
- The refurbished Tripolis buildings benefited from sustainability upgrades, including energy performance, material reuse, and WELL Gold.
- Tripolis Park has achieved WELL Gold certification, although the specific category (Core & Shell vs. Whole Building) and WELL version (v1 or v2) are not mentioned.
Reducing embodied carbon
- MVRDV completed the careful renovation of two of Aldo and Hannie van Eyck’s original Tripolis buildings (200 and 300). Retaining the original concrete-framed structures avoided the high carbon cost of demolition and rebuilding.
- Original elements and materials, such as staircases, natural stone flooring, and structural concrete cores, were preserved and reintegrated, thereby reducing waste.
- MVRDV upgraded the existing facades, restoring van Eyck’s original full-wood design using sustainable timber.
Operational Emissions / Energy
Energy efficient and sustainable interventions
- The newly added landscraper, Het Venster, includes the use of high-performance triple-glazed facades, optimising insulation and reducing energy demand.
- Het Venster shields the older buildings from the A10 ring road’s noise and pollution, improving internal climate performance.
- The new and existing buildings incorporate photovoltaic panels to generate on-site renewable electricity.
- Intensive green roofs support rainwater retention and biodiversity, as well as thermal regulation.
- Landscaped outdoor spaces and natural materials promote biophilic design.
- Circadian lighting systems support natural sleep cycles.
- The site is designed as a walkable and bike-friendly urban campus. New paths link the buildings to Zuidas and the metro station.
- Future plans, including the redevelopment of Tripolis 100 into housing, emphasise mixed-use, public space, and long-term adaptability.
