Embodied carbon
Efficient
The reuse of structural elements, facades, and timber slats has significantly reduced the embodied carbon typically associated with new materials.
Operational Emissions / Energy
Efficient
With the implementation of Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES/WKO) and energy-efficient systems, the building's operational emissions are minimized.
Afterlife
Disassemblable Elements for Circular Economy
By preserving and repurposing the original framework and exterior elements of the building, the project significantly reduces material waste and the carbon footprint associated with new construction. Notably, large portions of the original structure and façade were reused. The concrete columns salvaged from the demolished central house were repurposed, and the old Sequoia redwood ceiling panels were repurposed as wall cladding in the atrium, ensuring aesthetic continuity and reducing the need for new resources. Additionally, four concrete columns from the demolition have been reintegrated into the design, highlighting a commitment to circularity and resource efficiency.
