Embodied carbon

Efficient

Several strategies help to minimise Éléonore's carbon footprint.

  • Energy efficiency: The building is designed to exceed ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1-2010 energy standards by 5 percent, through rigorous energy modelling.
  • Envelope optimisation: Improved sealing and insulation strategies are incorporated, including a continuous air barrier and a high-performance thermal envelope. A compact volume also improves envelope performance.
  • Reduction of thermal loss: Measures include limiting distribution losses in heating and air conditioning ducts, while optimised ventilation systems contribute to overall energy efficiency.
  • Waste management and environmental footprint: A strict construction waste management plan was implemented to minimise landfill disposal, and recycled materials were tracked. In addition, two historic homes were preserved and integrated into the project, avoiding demolition, reducing waste, and conserving natural resources.

Operational Emissions / Energy

Efficient

The project incorporates several innovations in sustainable materials and construction techniques.

Sustainable materials include:

  • FSC-certified wood for interior doors, frames, and cabinetry.
  • Concrete containing at least 30 percent fly ash or cementitious additives and 50 percent recycled aggregates.
  • Composite wood products that meet ultra-low emitting formaldehyde (ULEF) standards.
  • Showers and faucets that comply with WaterSense® standards to limit water consumption.

Construction techniques include:

  • Implementation of a balanced ventilation system that complies with ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2022, ensuring optimal air quality and efficient energy management.
