Embodied carbon

Efficient

There were cooling strategies taken as preventative sustainable measures in this project, such as -

  • Targeted Thermal Insulation (West-Facing Walls): Recognizing the intense heat gain from the west, a layer of rockwool insulation was applied to these walls. This eco-friendly material, made from natural stone powder, provides crucial fire resistance and soundproofing while effectively minimizing indoor heat gain, thus enhancing air conditioning efficiency and creating a cooler interior.
  • Heat Absorption Reduction (Concrete Elements): Concrete beams and columns, acting as thermal mass, can retain and release heat. To counteract this, a layer of stone paint, composed of natural stone and polyurethane, was applied as a thermal insulation finish. This reduces the amount of heat absorbed by the concrete, contributing to a more consistently cool indoor living space.

Operational Emissions / Energy

Efficient

Faced with Da Nang's intense tropical monsoon climate and summer heat, this townhouse design prioritizes reducing thermal load and maximizing natural ventilation to minimize energy consumption for cooling. Simultaneously, a vertical green facade system actively absorbs carbon emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability.

  • Natural Ventilation & Open Spaces: The design strategically integrates open spaces to facilitate natural airflow throughout the townhouse, reducing the need for energy-intensive air conditioning.
  • Comprehensive Green Façade: The building's entire façade is enveloped in greenery, supported by a glass window system. This innovative approach allows ample natural daylight to penetrate the interior, significantly diminishing reliance on artificial lighting. The green facade also acts as a natural thermal buffer and contributes to CO2 absorption.
