Operational Emissions / Energy
Efficient
The key points of the project's energy approach and sustainability features are:
- User-Centric Energy Approach: Prioritizes user needs and considers energy performance as a result of the synergy between architectural form, materials, technical systems, and usage.
- Emphasis on Practicality: Focuses on ease of use and robust, low-maintenance technical systems.
- Innovative Thermal Regulation: The community center utilizes geothermal probes powered by photovoltaic panels for year-round heating and cooling.
- Natural Summer Cooling: An earth-to-air heat exchanger (Canadian well) facilitates natural ventilation for cooling during summer.
- Energy Self-Sufficiency: The implemented energy system enables self-sufficiency for the shared spaces of the housing complex and the community center.
- Greenhouse as Thermal Buffer:
- Acts as a tempered circulation space in winter.
- Fully opens in summer.
- Preheats air during colder seasons.
Service and maintenance emissions
Efficient
Different design choices were implemented for the efficiency of the project's sustainability-
- Natural Ventilation in Community Center: Achieved through automatic window openings.
- Passive Overheating Prevention: The thermal inertia of raw earth brick walls and screeds effectively prevents summer overheating.
- Greenhouse Heat Mitigation: Shade sails are deployed in the greenhouse during summer.
- Natural Cooling via Openings: Openable side doors and chapels in the greenhouse allow for air renewal and natural cooling.
- Passive Winter Heat Gain: Passive heat accumulated in the greenhouse on sunny days helps reduce overall energy consumption.
- Optimized Natural Lighting: Strategically placed and sized windows provide 50% natural lighting autonomy across most interior areas.
Afterlife
Adaptive Reuse and Flexible Design Considerations
The simplicity of the structure and dry-assembly joints allows for easy disassembly if needed. The greenhouse is designed as a highly flexible space, easily adaptable to future uses.
Disassemblable Elements for Circular Economy
