Embodied carbon
Operational Emissions / Energy
Operational emissions are reduced through geothermal heat pumps, on-site photovoltaic electricity generation, 200 mm mineral wool insulation, large roof overhangs, and natural ventilation strategies. Through placing bathrooms along the façade, the floorplan further eliminate the need for mechanical ventilation in living areas, reducing energy demand.
Service and maintenance emissions
Prefabricated and standardised materials, factory-applied finishes, protective skirts and durable and sustainable flooring choices reduce the need for frequent maintenance and replacement. The design choices prioritise material longevity.
Afterlife
The building uses prefabricated elements and a timber-hybrid structure that could allow for interior reconfiguration in future. Standardised and modular components allow for different uses of the space.
Prefabricated wall panels, CLT elements, and windows could be disassembled for reuse. Standardised dimensions and finishes support material recovery.
