Embodied carbon

Efficient

The project has been certified for its sustainable plans and is well on its way to receiving a final landscape certification.

  • LEED for Neighborhood Development (LEED ND) Gold certification has been awarded to the project plan. The project's overall design and strategy for sustainability at a neighborhood scale have been certified as Gold.

  • SITES (Landscape) Gold certification is a pre-certification. The project's plan for sustainable landscape design has been reviewed and is on its way to achieving full certification once construction is complete and the site is operational.

Operational Emissions / Energy

Low Carbon

The project's operational emissions strategies are highly innovative and are targeting a 35% CO₂ reduction. Key features include:

  • Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage: Japan's first large-scale system of its kind, which stores seasonal heat and cold underground to be reused for heating and cooling, respectively. This reduces the need for conventional HVAC systems.

  • Sewer Heat Utilization: A system that uses heat from the sewer infrastructure as a heat source for hot water in the park's facilities.

  • Combined Energy Management: The project combines cogeneration systems with district heating and cooling, allowing for linkage with external energy sources and maintaining energy independence during emergencies.

  • Microclimate Benefits: The design, with extensive green roofs, shaded pathways, and integrated vegetation, mitigates the urban heat island effect, which reduces cooling loads and energy consumption.

Service and maintenance emissions

Efficient

The use of extensive green infrastructure, such as green roofs and integrated vegetation, suggests a focus on natural, low-maintenance systems for microclimate control and stormwater management.
